Run the Un-named Nazgul as Democratic Candidate!

One last chuckle from George F. Will before bedtime:

Dean is why there is both good and bad news for Democrats in Newsweek's latest presidential poll. The good news is that George W. Bush is in a 46-46 dead heat when matched against an unnamed Democrat. The bad news is that the Democratic nominee will have, among other problematic attributes, a name, probably Dean's.

Ah, you mock but to my mind Bush would steamroller anyone who isn't Clark or Dean, the others just look like pale copies of the man they're trying to replace - and a healthy chunk of what should be their core support regards them as spineless technocrats. Anyway, this weeks economist seems to have decided Dean may have a chance, which is nice cause they've been sniping and lying about him for weeks. Liberal magazine my arse.
We'll see. To my mind, the key state is South Carolina. If Dean can win in the deep south, I'd up my odds that he'd win southern votes in the general election. But given his performance so far, I don't see it happening. And without at least some Southern states, he's unlikely to win the general election.
Nah, the Democratic candidate just needs the Southwest and/or the Mountain West and/or the Midwest. (Assuming the Northeast and the Pacific Coast.) And the Southwest is a *very* good target. The Southeast is simply not essential. (Except Florida... here's hoping it doesn't get stolen again.)
