RSS vs. IBM?

If you blog, you definitely need to read about RSS and the Battle of the blogs. I'm not sure where I come down on this controversy yet, but I instinctively hope that RSS prevails, first of all because I've put some time into working with it, and secondly because the fear of IBM turning a replacement into a complex monstrosity is just too great. The beauty of Really Simple Syndication is just that--it's simple enough for non-technical users to muck about with.

But who knows, maybe the new standard will be better. For those of you following on Moveabletype or Blogger, they've thrown in their lot with the new technology. Google's own API is usable. Maybe we can trust Google and Moveabletype to keep them honest.

As a professional computer geek/webmaster, I am in total agreement with your instinctive hope. Forgive my instinctive Microsoft bashing, but my worst nightmare with turning over the RSS alternative to a standards consortium would be the possibility of Microsoft attempting to dominate the consortium as part of its historical strategy to "embrace and extend" technologies in order to functionally monopolize them (if you don't like the MS bashing, just substitute "IBM" or your favorite computing bugbear in that formula; the possibilities are endless). The only upside I see to this is that if Blogger is behind it, then maybe Blogger will extend the syndication scheme to us mere free Blogger users rather than keeping it a feature of the paid Blogger Pro service. *sigh* Best, LRC
I can only say, regarding syndication and Blogger, "Amen to that, brother." Keeping up with you non-syndicated blogspot types is a pain in the rump. :)
